01 — Brief & site

A dated villa, reimagined from the shell out

The starting point in Namuang was a simple, dated villa in need of a full rethink rather than a light refresh. The brief was to strip it back and bring it up to a modern standard throughout, replacing a closed, compartmentalised layout with a warm, open-plan home built around natural light and everyday comfort.

02 — Design response

Rustic-modern, cosy but open

The concept is a cohesive rustic-modern open-plan home: natural materials, integrated lighting, and a warm, inviting atmosphere carried consistently from room to room. Walls have come down where they were holding the plan back, opening up sightlines and letting daylight reach much further into the house, while the detailing keeps things feeling cosy rather than cavernous.

03 — Kitchen & storage

Warm joinery, functional storage

The kitchen sets the tone for the rest of the home: warm timber cabinetry paired with open wooden shelving on exposed steel supports, giving the room texture without closing it in. A corner European-style dining area sits alongside it, and storage throughout has been planned to be genuinely functional, not just decorative, keeping daily life simple in a house built to be lived in.

04 — Light & atmosphere

Built around natural light

Every part of the open-plan concept is built around maximising natural light through the day, so the home reads as bright and airy despite its rustic material palette. Integrated lighting picks up where daylight leaves off, keeping the warm, inviting atmosphere consistent from morning through evening.

05 — Progress

Demolition and structural work underway

The renovation is currently in progress: internal walls are coming down to open up the new plan, and the site photos in the gallery below show that structural work as it's happening. Updates will follow as the project moves from demolition into the fit-out stage.
